Contactless borders: a welcome step for travellers

At Advantage Travel Partnership, we welcome the prospect of contactless borders making journeys home quicker and easier.

Reliable technology, supported by proper testing, staffing and contingency plans, will be essential to delivering that promise.

Commenting on this topic earlier in the week following the news of this being introduced soon, Julia Lo Bue-Said OBE, CEO of the Advantage Travel Partnership, said:

“The prospect of the imminent introduction of ‘contactless’ borders for British passport holders at e-gates is very welcome, particularly if it delivers the promised 25% reduction in border processing times at UK airports.

Queueing at borders has been a major frustration for travellers in recent months, so anything that makes getting home quicker and more seamless is good news.

Facial recognition could make a real difference, but success will come down to reliability. Proper investment in testing, staffing and effective contingency plans will be essential to ensure passengers can get through the airport quickly, safely and securely.

For travellers, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of getting through the airport system quickly, safely and securely so that you get home as quickly as possible. We should be able to take this for granted. We wish the process every success.”
